PROJECT DESCRIPTION

This contract was for the improvement of Route W-175 in the province of Chiloé, in the Lake Region. The project began at the 21,919,254 dm point, 100 metres east of the Intersection with access to the Linao sector and ended at the 45, 676, 944 dm point in the Quemchi district. The improvement project involved standard change, taking into account overall Double Surface Treatment and a layer of asphalt concrete for the areas with high slopes. The roadway has two traffic lanes, each one 3.5 metres wide. On the right hand side the lanes have verges half a metre wide and on the left hand side, verges of 1.5 metre width. There is also a 1.5 metre wide cycle lane and sidewalks in the semi-urban section of Lliuco. (30,800 – 33,260 dm) A consistent project profile was used along the coastal passage and a desirable project speed of 60km/h was adopted. Minimum expropriations were carried out to make room for the standard profile with an agreed width that met uniformity criteria. Minor modifications were made to the horizontal layout in order to eliminate the sections with very tight curves. For the vertical layout, a slope that adapts to the terrain was used to modify the very steep slopes with the aim of minimising earth movement. The refurbishment of the Metrenquén Bridge and the replacement of the Aucho and Chuncho Bridges were also part of the project. The contract included the construction of two viewpoints as well as necessary drainage works for the correct evacuation of water.

This route was included in the so-called ‘Chiloé plan’ and forms part of the eastern coastal road of the Island which runs from Chacao to the city of Dalcahue, giving continuity and connectivity to the East Network of roads on Chiloé island.
